Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Walsingham Praesidia

Members humbly strive to develop greater spirituality through evangelization efforts and performing spiritual works of mercy in the parish and in the community for our pastor. Deacon Francis Roettinger is our Spiritual Director.

The Legion of Mary was founded in Dublin Ireland on September 7th, 1921 on the Eve of the Blessed Mother’s birthday.  It is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church. There are two membership categories open to both men and women:

Active Members meet every Friday from 10:00 – 11:30 AM in the Youth Room at St. Bede Church.  Flexible scheduling is offered for completion of weekly spiritual works of mercy and ongoing evangelization efforts.  Anyone 18 years or older is welcome.

Auxiliary Members collectively support Our Lady of Walsingham Legion of Mary through their daily praying of the rosary and are the Blessed Mother’s 'prayer warriors'.

Our spiritual works of mercy and evangelization efforts to Catholics and Non-Catholics include:

  • Visitation with families of  newly baptized children bringing a spiritual gift and offering our support

  • Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Virgin Home Visitation for parishioners who would like to have a week of private devotional worship with family and friends

  • Home Enthronements of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

  • Visitation of area assisted living facilities, nursing homes and homebound to pray and offer spiritual support to supplement the efforts of the JOY Ministry

  • Special outreach to the Hispanic community

  • Involvement in Children’s Faith Formation and RCIA

  • Promotion of devotions and sacramentals

Many other spiritual works are incorporated at the request of our Pastor. For further information, contact Regina Yitbarek at 757-897-0732 or rhervey@cox.net.
