The Children's Faith Formation (CFF) Program

2017-2018: provides comprehensive religious catechesis for children, Pre-K through 8th grade. Sessions are held at St. Bede Catholic Church, in our Parish Ministry level and our Parish Hall, on Sunday mornings, from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m., September through April. The Sunday morning car line drop off starts at 9:15 a.m. Dismissal is from the Kaplan Parish Hall at 10:45 a.m., where parents /guardians come into the hall and sign out their children!

It is our sincere conviction that the real aim of catechesis is to bring each child into intimate communion with Jesus Christ. We are dedicated not only to showing the children the Catholic Faith that comes to us from the Apostles, but also to help form disciples of Jesus Christ who know, love and serve the Lord.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd:

During the 2017-2018 school year, we will begin the transition process to a new method of formation for your children in the hope that they enter more fully into their relationship with Christ and a lived faith in His church. Although this formation has been around for sixty years, we understand that many of us may have been formed in a different way of catechesis and this will be your first introduction to Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This transition will begin as a slow work, with the youngest parishoners at Saint Bede, the 3-4 year olds. We will also integrate this program during Sunday Faith Formation, rotating between the Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade classes. We are also very excited to add the CGS  "works" into our Sacramental Preparation sessions.

*Jan. 2018 update- We are currently in the process of setting up Catechesis of the Good Shepherd sessions, for all the parish 3-4 year olds, to start in March 2018. Session times will vary during the daytime, mid-day and early evening. We will post the sign up process, so all will have access to the Good Shepherd! Look for more to come!

All First Communion Mass dates & times have been assigned for Spring of 2018.

Please contact Rita Hipple at if you have not received your date.

Sacramental Preparation Program: Saint Bede Catholic Church welcomes families seeking First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion for their baptized children who are at least 7 years of age by September 1st.  The Sacramental Preparation Program at Saint Bede Catholic Church oversees and coordinates sacramental preparation, for all children of the parish, no matter where they attend school (private, public or homeschooled). The Sacramental Preparation program is a separate program from our weekly Children's Faith Formation program. Children enrolled in our Sacramental Preparation program must be receiving weekly Faith Formation, either enrolled here at St. Bede, attend private Catholic school or be enrolled in an approved homeschool curriculum.

If you have any questions concerning First Holy Communion in Spring of 2018 or how to enroll for the Sacramental Preparation program for the 2018-2019 school year, please contact Rita Hipple, Children's Faith Formation Coordinator, at, or at 757-229-3631, ext. 2303.

Disciples making Disciples -

Share your faith with the youngest parishoners-the future of our church!

"Jesus formed his disciples by making known to them the various dimensions of the Kingdom of God. He entrusted to them 'the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven' (Mt. 13:11); he taught them how to pray (Lk. 11:2); he opened his 'meek and humble heart' to them (Mt. 11:29). The fundamental task of catechesis is to achieve the same objective: the formation of disciples of Jesus Christ." -National Directory of Catechesis, 59.

The foundation of our Children's Faith Formation Program cannot happen without the stewardship gifts of time and talent so generously provided by our volunteer Formation Team members, many of whom are older siblings, parents and grandparents! With almost 400 students in our 2017-2018 program, the participation of older siblings, parents, guardians and grandparents is essential to making your child’s experience the best that it can be!

If you choose to homeschool your child for their weekly faith formation, please contact our Children's Faith Formation office, so that we may have an accurate record of all children in St. Bede parish who are receiving faith formation.  If you homeschool, and your child has been baptized, is at least 7 years of age, and is ready to prepare to receive their First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion, please visit our Sacramental Preparation Program page for more information.
