COVID-19 Updates

Letter from Monsignor

October 26, 2020

Dear Parishioners of Saint Bede,

I was notified on Saturday, October 24, 2020, that two individuals who worshipped with us have tested positive for COVID-19.  One person most recently attended the 8:30 am Mass on Sunday, October 18, 2020, and the other attended daily Mass on Wednesday, October 21  (“The Senior Mass”).  Both are receiving appropriate medical attention.

Following government and diocesan protocols, we notified the local health officials on Monday, October 26, 2020, to make them aware of the situation. Our diocesan officials have already been contacted.

Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and diocesan guidelines, the spaces occupied by these individuals have been aired out and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Out of concern for others and for yourself, I urge you to contact your primary health care provider immediately if you feel ill.

Please join me in praying for these individuals and all who are affected by COVID 19 at this time.  Thanks for all you are doing.

Pace e Bene,

(Fr) Joe

Pace e Bene (Paz y Bien)

Padre Joe

Dear People of Saint Bede,

Please know that we are praying for you during this difficult time. As you know, all public Masses and events throughout the diocese are suspended until further notice. All of us are grieved at this. We are a community, a family of faith, and we enjoy being together. It is out of concern for one another, however, that we keep our distance for now. With that in mind, please read the following update addressing pastoral care, sacraments, and church hours.

  • THE CHURCH WILL BE OPEN for private prayer from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sundays.
  • The tabernacle containing the Blessed Sacrament is now placed on the main altar inside the Nave to accommodate social distancing, which we ask you to practice. Resources for private prayer such as the Stations of the Cross will be available.
  • A PRIVATE MASS will be celebrated and can be viewed on the Saint Bede Facebook page each day, beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020. A link will be on the Saint Bede website. More details to come.
  • The SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION will be offered at the regularly scheduled times: M, T, Th, F [8:00 - 8:45 a.m.], W [6:00 - 7:00 p.m.], and Saturdays [3:30 - 4:30 p.m.]. Please pay attention to signage, however, as the location may change.
  • LAST RITES AND OTHER EMERGENCIES: In case of emergency, such as serious illness or closeness to death, our priests will continue to be available to provide the sacraments. Call the church during office hours at (757) 229-3631, and during off-hours, call (757) 220-4233. Please leave a detailed message if necessary.
  • PARISH OFFICES remain open, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Please note, however, that some staff may be working from home.
  • FUNERALS, WEDDINGS, & BAPTISMS to take place in the next few weeks can continue if absolutely necessary. These will be limited to immediate family and to 10 people, in accord with CDC guidance.
  • Please consider the health and safety of others. Social distancing is appropriate, and no more than 10 persons are to be in a single room at once, including the Nave of the church. Please self-monitor at Saint Bede and elsewhere.

Updates, information, and resources will be posted in the coming days. We’ll also be reaching out to you for input on how to creatively address our current situation. Please pray for us and for one another. We encourage you to reach out in appropriate ways to those who are especially isolated or vulnerable now. May God bless you and keep you!

In Christ,

The Saint Bede Clergy & Staff

SAINT PATRICK, PRAY FOR US!
