School of Religion - First Holy Communion
Our First Holy Communion preparation has a twofold approach: classroom instruction of the children on a weekly basis and parent preparation sessions that are designed to equip you as the primary educator(s) of your child with the tools and resources that you will need to prepare your child for the Sacrament of Holy Communion. In our program we emphasize the primary and irreplaceable role of the parents as the first and best educators of their children; as such our role is to assist you in this process. We especially emphasize the constant Church teaching that the Eucharist is the “source and summit of the Christian life” (CCC 1324, LG 11). We emphasize the Real Presence of Jesus Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Blessed Sacrament.
I also recommend that, in their catechetical training, and especially in their preparation for First holy Communion, children be taught the meaning and the beauty of spending time with Jesus, and helped to cultivate a sense of awe before His presence in the Eucharist” (Benedict XVI, Sacramentum Caritatis, 67).
