Masterworks Series

Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.

Join us for a passionate performance of the Four Serious Songs by Brahms sung by Bass-Baritone Darren K. Stokes accompanied by Michael Steven Lianos. This song-set based on scripture from Ecclesiastes is normally performed on the piano, but will be performed with an organ accompaniment to create an orchestral backdrop to support Stokes’s powerful voice. This concert will also have Mr. Stokes performing the fiery aria from Mendelssohn’s Elijah: “Is Not His Word Like a Fire?”. There will also be organ selections by both Brahms and Mendelssohn as well as stories – a fun history lesson – about these composers with regards to the works we will perform.
